Course objective: The aim of this course is to enable students to have a better understanding of the structure of English sentences by exploring a new approach to grammar that will provide them with the basics for linguistics’ fields; namely morphology and syntax.

This course is an extension of the Guided Reading course which you took in the first semester.
It takes you a step further through the process of reading literary texts by focusing on basic skills and
effective reading strategies.. In addition to fiction, you will also be introduced to other non-fiction
texts, mainly the essay, the biography and the memoir. By the end of this course, you will be able to
recognize and identify the basic literary devices and rhetorical strategies that are commonly employed
in these genres.
